Saint Patrick was born in the 4th century AD, somewhere in Scotland or Roman England. The actual birthplace of this saint is still in question. He was not Irish by birth, but is celebrated at the patron saint of Ireland as he ia said to have brought Christian religion to the country. The real name of patrick was Maewyn Succat and his father was Calpurnius.

Patrick was abducted by some pirates at the age of six and worked as a slave for next 6 years. During this time, he is said to have dreamed of God who later helped him to escape from there. After escaping, he visited Britain and then, France. There he became a member of a monastery and learned for 12 years. Once he became a bishop, he wanted to go to Ireland to promote Christianity there.

The Confessio is the autobiography of St Patrick where he describes his life and how he served people in Ireland. He worked for almost 40 years to preach God and convert pagan Irish to Christianity. Patrick was very successful in his efforts and converted a big number of people.

One story of St Patrick tells that he drove out snakes from the old Ireland, but according to history there were no snakes in the country to begin with. Some people believe that snakes here symbolize Celtic Druids, who became his enemies due to his increasing popularity. St Patrick is also said to have set up several monasteries, schools and churches to help his efforts during the journey.
